Aldo di Giacomi
About
In 2000, Aldo di Giacomi planted vineyards of Sangiovese and Montepulciano, and rehabilitated an old vineyard of Passerina, Malvasia, and Trebbiano in his native village of Castorano. Mountains frame the local Ascoli Piceno region on three sides with an opening to the Adriatic Sea. The 2.5 hectares of vines are planted on steep hillsides of mostly limestone soils. Aldo adheres to the traditional DOC conventions of the area while practicing earth-friendly farming, achieving a sometimes difficult balance of working within a system of rules and striving for his own idea of excellence.
